Kentucky’s 2016 Future City Competition
POSTED BYPatricia A. Mason, P.E.
Last month I shared information on the Future City DiscoverE program at East Oldham Middle School. I was lucky to mentor a team of young women from EOMS and was delighted at their dedication and creativity. The contest consisted of 4 major deliverables. After designing a virtual city (using the SimCity video game), researching, building a scale model of their city, and writing up their solution, teams presented their vision to a panel of judges. The 2016 Kentucky competition was held January 18th at Oldham County Middle School.
WLKY reported on the story and has video showing many of the models. Additional photos are available at the Oldham County Schools Facebook page January 19th post. Congratulations to all of the students who competed. I am especially proud of the EOMS Skylark Point Team, who I had the pleasure of working with. They placed 6th overall out of 55 teams and won the “Best Overall Writing” award. Contact me for more information at 502-587-6482 x 211 or firstname.lastname@example.org or visit Futurecity.org.
